WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO
My name is Madison Fruge, at the age of fourteen I founded my own nonprofit organization, called Maddie’s Gifts of Hope.
On November 14, 2011 I was rushed to the hospital after being injured in a sporting accident. I was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, and I was hospitalized for four weeks during the Thanksgiving holidays. Although I lost 65% of my short-term and long-term memory, I was one of the few fortunate children that had my family there by my side.
During my stay at the hospital, I learned that there were children who were hospitalized and didn’t have any family nor friends. They did not have anyone to bring them a get-well card or a balloon. Many children had to fight life-threatening illnesses, all alone. It broke my heart to see these children left all alone, which is why I started Maddie’s Gifts of Hope.
Maddie’s Gifts of Hope is a state recognized, non-profit organization. We make two annual trips a year; during the Thanksgiving and Easter holiday seasons. Every year for the Thanksgiving holiday we travel to New Orleans Children’s Hospital, and for the Easter holiday we travel to various children’s hospitals. During our visit to each hospital, we bring arts and crafts with us, as a fun activity for the children. We also deliver a goody bag and a brand-new toy to each child in each hospital.
